Default ecu questions

Whats up guys, new here hoping to find some much needed answers.

I have done lots of internet searching only to come up empty handed.

My dd is a 01 sebring 2.7 engine auto. recently my mechanic an I have trouble shooted the car not starting to be the ecu.

Heres where i cant get a definite answer. Does the ecu for my car have to be programmed to my car or is it plug an play??

and if it does need programing, can i buy a used one from a 01 2.7 (stratus, or sebring) an take it to a chrysler to have it REprogrammed

any help would be much appreciated thanks guys

you can try an used PCM but make darn sure it's the exact same. IDK make sure they have the same options, don't mix PCM's the have security system with a car that doesn't and visa versa

www.car-part.com will easily locate one

how much more do you want? yes you can get another pcm from the junk yard as long as the vehicle has the same engine, emissions calibration, and security option.

www.car-part.com HAS THE ANSWER!!!!

but I think buying a computer is a waste, in 30 years in the field, I can count the number of bad ECM's I've replaced on one hand

i understand that i can buy another computer for the car. but you never answered does it need programing to my car??

an im 95% sure its the ecu ill explain my problem an see if you got any ideas

cut off while driving one day, i realized it was a fuel problem, checked fuses, relays all good. changed fuel pump an got nothing, decided to pull injectors an have someone crank. well only 3 injectors fired so i went an got new injectors an replaced an still only 3 fired. replaced the entire wire harness an only 3 still fire. cylinder 1 2 6 all fire. eventually if you crank it long enough 6 stops firing, but if you take the wire off an put it on 3 or 5 they start to fire. so it has to be the ecu

I've seen a broken flex plate do that too. but again if the computer listed on the afore mentioned web site then it will work. but beware if it doesn't they won't give you your money back.

if it was me, I'd be doing every kind of test to Sunday before I condem a pcm.
