recirculation door and actuator (long winded)
Okay Hi my name is Chris.
Now i just got a 1996 stratus es with 2.4 x engine. the recirculation controls on the dash below the radio was not working. so i took a gander under the dash. the actuator was just hanging there... the lower flap control (gear arm or stick) the one that runs the flower vents was off. the cam was on the actuator (not on its hole in the housing).
so first figured out how it worked:
A cam that the actuator truns to run a total of 3 controls to operate window-shield defrost, floor vents, dash vents.
there is gear arm that runs the floor vents with a stick or nub on it that fits in the cam and at the end of the stick is a gear end that fits the control flap outer control gear (gear that sticks out the housing box to move flap up and down).
Next a stick that controls the defrost for the window-shield its at the top of the dash and goes on the back of the cam.
Then there is a gear arm that has a stick (nub) on it that controls the dash vents. its in between the floor and window-shield control arms. It also fits on the back of the cam so there are 3 controls that go on the cam.
So I put it all back to gather after fighting the actuator to get it turned to fit in the cam. then i unplugged the wiring harness from the actuator and turned the **** to dash vents and floor vents as that is the only vents that where blowing when i put the unit together.
next i tested it, it worked. when i turned the **** the actuator adjusted the move the cam and it changed what vents worked, but its wrong defrost will work, floor vents work, dash vent work, but none on the right setting. also i can have floor vents dash vents and deforst at the same time.
i can not get defrost to work by its self or floor vents by it self. you know like it supposed to be (dash vents, dash + floor, floor, floor + defrost, deforst).
I played with taking this apart and putting it back together for 5 hours. each time it changes the way it works. is there like timing marks or something for the cam and the bottom floor vent gear? ( the floor vent gear has notices or gear groves that offset it affecting the way it turns) or do i just have to go to the junk hard and pull a working housing and install it in my car?
sorry for the long winded post
Thanks chris
