Default check engine light

is there anything wrong with turning it off by disconnecting the battery a while? will it come back on if it finds that there is still a problem? i dont want to just shut it off, and have other problems undetected, but im sure the current problem is fixed. What do dealers usually charge to clear it?

yeah...if you know the problem is fixed then you can just unplug the + side of the battery terminal for 2 minutes to re-set the computer. If there is still a problem the lite will come back on once the sensor detects a problem. DO NOT TAKE IT TO A DEALER. They will just do the exact same thing and charge you $100. That is the dealer fee for diagnositc testing which is what they will do.

Now if you are not sure what the issue is with the check engine lite you can go to your local Autozone and they will plug in a diagnostic scanner for free and tell you whats up.

Hope this helps
