Default Oil Leaking - 2002 Dodge Stratus ES 2.4L

Hello,

A few weeks ago I had my oil pan/gasket replaced to fix an oil leak that was happening. However, it seems its still leaking in other places as I am losing oil. Firestone originally did the repair, and I had them check the oil pan/gasket again just to make sure it wasn't leaking. It wasn't, so they tell me I need to do the following:

Replace:
1. Water Pump
a. Timing Cover Seal
b. Timing Cover Gasket

2. Replace Oil Pressure Sender/Switch
a. coolant flush

They say #2 will take care of a majority of it.

All of these repairs together add up to quite a bit mostly due to labor costs.

I'm curious if anyone else has had to do these repairs, and if in fact this is something I should have done and will fix the issue.

Would it be ok to just replace the oil pressure switch to start with?

Thank you.

Timing cover doesn't leak oil. Only the seals leak around the cams and crankshaft seals leak. If the oil pressure switch is leaking, replace it and add engine dye for future leaks.

What maste tech said!

I would say just put an Oil pressure switch in, and clean it up good. Then go from there.
Crank and Cam seals do leak, but they really don't leak in Severe amount.
Sometimes i've seen Valve cover Gasket leaks too.

Thanks for the advice.

Could you offer step by step direction for replacing the oil pressure switch or provide an online resource that lays out the steps for this fix. It doesn't sound like a complicated thing, but want to make sure I do it right.

Thank you.

Step 1, unplug sender
step 2, unscrew sender
step 3, screw new sender in
step 4, plug in new sender
