Default 2000 Stratus Transmission

I need a little help.

My sons 2000 Stratus ES has transmission issues. It has no reverse and no 4th gear.

I am pulling error codes P0700, P0733, P0736 and P1790. I believe that these codes are indicative of major internal issues.

Am I correct in my assumption? Is it time for a new trans or can there be other issues that may be easier and cheaper to fix?

Thanks!

I would disconnect the 8 pin connector next to the fill tube and place gear selector in reverse...if still no reverse, yes its time to remove and repair....

Problem is most likely the reverse input clutches. my stratus had no 3rd gear, I pulled it fixed the problem for under $50 (broken part).

You probably have burned up reverse input clutches. A hydraulic pressure test on the Reverse input clutch would show if you are having application.

Welcome to DF
I would agree with the other members, the problem is inside the transmission. You would either need to take it apart and inspect what you need to repair the problem or replace the transmission with a reman.

Thanks for the input. The connector that you are talking about, is it sort of behind / under the air box? There are actually two there. Which one should I be pulling?

It's going to need a rebuild. look into a used trans, or find someone to rebuild the current one. It's quite a job to pull this trans. I did mine about 4 months ago and it took a lot of work

Just curious how many miles? Was tranny ever flushed/and refilled with new tanny oil?

The car has about 130k on it. As far as I know, it has never had a flush or fluid change.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy a remanufactured trans from??

Thanks,
Ted
