2001 Stratus Tranny Upgrade
I've got a 2001 Stratus ES Sedan. 2.7L (200 BHP on Premium, and yes, I notice the difference!), 4-speed auto Autostick,, full-sized spare, etc.
The car has 174K miles. Currently, at full throttle the tranny has a hydraulic squeak as it shifts gears. I was wondering what it would take to swap in one of the newer 6-speed autos from an Avenger. Tranny, mounts, computer - those are obvious.
Has anyone done this before? I do way more city driving than I used to, and I'd like the extra gears around town. I'm averaging 26 MPG mixed currently, mostly by keeping to speed limits and not needing the A/C. I did notice going to BFG Sport T/A 215/55-16's (formerly on my SHO) helped as the car acts like it has a higher numerical drive (they are about 1" shorter than the BFG Traction T/A's I was running) and around town it doesn't need quite as much gas to get up and go.
I'm thinking of doing the same to my 2006 Dodge Minivan SXT (3.8L, 85K miles) if gas prices continue going up. That averages 18 MPG, all city, 22 MPG when we take it on road trips.
Thanks ahead of time! I did search for some hints, but have had no hits on the forum.
Yahoo searches were not helpfull either.
Thanks ahead of time!

Ugh. I had hoped someone had tried this already.
Thanks! I'll start at the dealership to see what the parts differences are.
Then, I've got to find a donor car for parts. Not easy in CT these days.
Well, first I have to but new bearings in next week. Definately a light rod knock now. Bearings will be in on Tuesday.
