Default 1997 Plymouth Breeze auto to manual trans swap

ok i have searched all over this forum and cant seem to find anyone else who has ever actually done this swap.

i have a 1997 and 1998 plymouth breeze and swapped a manual trans with a 3.94 gear out of a dodge neon. i got the petals, shift cables, clutch cable, and shifter and did the swap.

what im trying to figure out is the speedo. it is the only thing that doesnt work since the swap. in the automatic cars the signal comes from the auto trans computer. in the manuals im not sure. thats my problem. idk how to get it to work. if anyone has any info it would be awesome.

Wow, Someone that not just asked about it, but actually went ahead and tried Good For You!

The gauge cluster is different between the two (the manual doesn't have the gear selector on the screen I'm pretty sure). I believe the cluster from the manual looks to the output speed sensor on the trans, instead of to the TCM for the automatic. It's a very simple process in the grand scheme of things. Maybe you can look at the formerly manual car and trace the wiring back?

Yeah overall the swap isn't that hard. I plan on fdoing another one. I have all the parts to do it. I will look at the wore schematics. I am installing a factory 5 speed wire harness today after work. I think that will get everything working

I still say "swap the cluster" and see what happens. Keep us posted about what works (and what DOESN'T )

I'd like to know what all parts are needed to do this. I'm very interested in doing this on my 04 Stratus while I'm swapping the motor out. Please get back..

yeah i think im gonna put in a new speed sensor and get the manual gauge cluster from the junkyard and see if that works.

what motor do you have? i have NO knowledge about doing the swap with a v6. i dont know what transmissions bolt to them. now if you got the 2.4??? i think thats the only 4 cyl option in that year right?

when i did my swap i followed this How-To over on the stratusphere forums.

http://www.stratusphere.net/forums/i...2Bto+%2Bmanual

for the parts i recommend trying to find a factory manual car as a parts car. look on craigslist and try to find one with a blown motor or totalled but has all the manual transmission stuff undamaged. thats where i got most of my parts. my twin brother bought a 97 factory 5 spd car. but then he totalled it and pulled everything except the cars whole harness. we pulled the motor harness but not the rest. now im wishing he would have. but thats fine. i got one for a decent price.

it may sound like alot of work but its really not all that bad if you like wrenching and dont mind putting alot of time and work into your car. i love working on cars. im always doing something to my breeze or ram.

let me know if you have any questions i will do my best to help you out in any way i can. and if your close to pinconning, mi i would even come help you out. i love to wrench.

so now i have ALOT of parts for sale. im gonna part it out i think. i have anything and everything to do 2 manual swaps if anyone is interested in parts.

Sorry to hear.. I Do have the 2.4L x model 04 sedan. But when I swap the engine I wont be going with a stock stratus 2.4L again. Was pondering the SRT4 or EVO if that is even possible. Sounds as If I will need a transmission from one of them cars as well if I wish to go that route. Sounds like this will be a bigger job than yours and even what I expected. Good thing I wasn't in any type of rush on this one.
