Question Need help to verify what Dodge dealer told me

I have a 2004 Dodge Stratus R/T with the 3.0L Mitsubishi engine.
The dealer has told me my Distributor has gone bad and I need to replace it. The Dealer wants $1300 for a "Dodge/Chrysler" distributor and is trying to tell me that I Cannot use the Mitsubishi distributor. (I can get a Mitsu distributor for around $300)

Are they correct?
Is there something special/uniquie about the "Dodge" version of the distributor?

When I go to sites like AutoZone, RockAuto, Parts Geeks, all those sites are telling me that the "Mitsubishi" distributor is the only one available.

Is this dealer full of BS and just trying to scam me?

Thank you,
Eric

Buy the Mitsubishi part. Chances are, they will order a part for a sedan and you will be out $$ and wasted time trying to get the right part in. The Eclipse and Stratus were made side by side in the Mitsubishi plant in Normal, IL. It is the same EXACT engine. Only thing different for whatever reason on the 5 speeds is the clutch and flywheels are different.

How many miles? Its not very common you see a distributor needing replaced.

If you buy a New Distributor from a Mitsubishi dealer or Chrysler dealership, they are really expensive.

a $300 is an aftermarket. and it will work on eclipse and Stratus R/T coupe. I suppose you can bring one in urself.

And you NEED to make sure those parts people are looking up the right part urself if you are going to bring one in urself.

I thought the Stratus and eclipse is the EXACT same car.
