Default 2000 ES 2.5L V6 Cranks, No Start

So, I must admit, I'm not a big domestic car fan (I have an Integra Type R, and an Rx-7 for my fun cars) So working on this car is a new experience for me! (I don't feel so bad knowing its a Mitsubishi engine )

I noticed a big decline in my gas mileage recently, which i assumed had to do w/ my EGR valve which has been throwing a code for the past 2.5 years with no ill side effects.

Went to start it the other day, and started to fire up, and then all of a sudden just died, and now wont start up again.

Will crank over no problem, just won't fire up.

Wheres my best place to start looking?
I know how to test the distributor/fuel pump, but wondering if there are less labor intensive smaller things i can try so i don't have to drop the tank or pull the upper intake manifold and stuff off.

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to DF
I would check for spark. If you don't have spark check the asd relay with a known good relay, if the engine has spark you found the problem. If not then remove the dist cap and check the rotor and have someone crank the engine and see if the rotor spins. If the rotor spins, the timing belt should be okay. Then I would replace the dist, cap and rotor.

Sorry for the delay, working 16 hour days for 2 weeks straight doesn't leave much time to work on the car

Car has spark, at least on the front 3 cylinders.

Tried listening for the fuel pump w/ the help of someone turning the key to the ON position. I can't hear it....but...i might not be listening for the right sound? How loud should the pump be when priming?

Both my other cars have aftermarket pumps that can be easily heard while sitting in the drivers seat.. i had my head under the car close to the fuel tank and couldn't hear anything, nor could i hear anything while listing at the fuel filler neck w/ gas cap off.

If i let the car sit over night/couple days, when i try to start the car, it starts to fire up, and then goes back to just cranking over. Once i do this, and try to start the car again, it just cranks over and over with no indication that it wants to start

Since i have spark, it wouldn't be the ASD relay causing the problem, right?
Could the fuel pump relay cause this?

When you turn the key to on w/ the hood up, and you have the fuse box open, you can hear one of the relays clicking....shouldn't both the ASD and fuel pump relay click?

Thanks for all the help!

Yes it could be a fuel pump relay or a blown fuse for the fuel pump. Can you hook up a fuel pump pressure gauge and see what the pressure is?
