Default Ball Joints

I searched and couldn't find anything on this so here goes...

I need to replace the upper and lower ball joints on the front end. I have the uppers but the auto parts store said that I need to buy the complete control arm assembly for the lowers. I have found lowers (just the ball joints) online so know that they can be purchased....just not sure if they can be installed.

Do these need a press to get them in and out? I have the ball joint wedge/fork and a big hammer. Is there a written procedure on these somewhere?

What kind of Stratus do you drive/
Check out rockauto.com. A buddy of mine needed lower ball joints replaced, and since replacing the lower control arm with ball joint was only $55 a side, we did that.

Some lower ball joints are pressed in, some have a clip holding them in and need some persuasion from a hammer to get out.

Got the lower control arms shipped around $120.....decided to go ahead and get the uppers as well. I took back the ball joints to Advanced Auto and got a refund, almost the same as the control arms. That will definitely save me some work and probably a lot of blood.
