Default trying to locate blend door for heater..

My heater isnt blowing hot or even warm air. Mechanic says blend door isnt working need new electric motor. It's pretty expensive so I would like to see if i can just wedge the door to the heater side until i can properly fix it. But i dont know how to get to it, any suggestions? Thanks in advance

What yr and engine size? so we can find you proper instruction.
make sure it is not the clog heater core problem first. Tho I believe your mechanic, broken blend door is no uncommon.
In order to get to those doors for most cars out there, the whole Dash have to come apart, whole day worth of work even for experienced mechanic.

Make sure you are completely full of coolant and then you need to locate the heater hoses going into the firewall. With the heater on at running temp, both hoses should be approx the same temp. If one is cooler, it may be plugged. That means the coolant inside the core is warm too. I would run your heat with blower on full blast and put your hand up in the middle of the dash on both sides and feel for warm spots. The door may be inside the box but the actuator should be accessable from the outside. I've never done a heater core on one of these but I used to own a radiator shop and I've done a couple hundred or so over 15 years. I've seen water pump impellers rusted away that cause this problem too. I've also seen vacuum lines kicked off by passengers feet or stereo installation guys.

Try this. Disconnect your battery for about 15 minutes. Then, with the heat controls and blower off, start the car and let it run for 5 minutes and then try your heat.

Default must be the blend door

the mechanic checked out everything and he still says its the electric motor that turns the blend door. My fiance tryed the disconnect battery idea, some fuse removal idea and even some ignition turning that gave us some codes on the dash(which was something about emissions). After we get married in march I dont mind handing out the bills to fix it but right now I would like him wedge my door to the heat side but we dont know how to get to it

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the passenger side hush panel.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connection
  4. Remove actuator retaining screws and pull actuator straight down. Note actuator shaft position for installation reference.
