02 stratus sedan 2.7 w/35k miles (mom's old car)
ck engine light on, code-p0601. Everthing checks out fine, had my mech run a diagnosis, I was told to put tape over the ck eng light. Not good !
Do I need to go to the dealer and pay w/a kidney ? I have read about "reflashing", or get a pcm a year earlier ? Does the dealer marry the vin #
w/the pcm ? Is p0601 the death flash ? Any and all help is really appreciated.

 

John your mechanic may be right. If you are not seeing any problems with your car.
You can look online for a new PCM flashed to your vin or check with the dealer.
Most of the time reflashing doesn't help.
It is ckecksome ere with the PCM.

The P0601 is an internal fault like dolittle had wrote. The only fix is to replace the PCM and yes the vin number would need to be burn into the software.

 

This forum is a great find. I did some more reading and the information found on this site helps (I'm not sure about the 2.7). I was not going to "fix" this w/tape. Just wanted to say thanks.
