ac pulley is grinding
Recently my ac pulley has started grinding. I was told that removing the nut on the pulley and simply pulling it to replace the bearing would be the easiest and cost effective method since the ac still works and i dont want to waste a charge. However we have tried removing the nut on the pulley and it doesnt seem to want to come off. And by no means am i just going to bash at it in hopes it will solve the problem. Does anyone have any advise with how I should approach fixing this problem?
First the A/C Clutch needs to come off, then there should be a Circlip that holds the A/C Pulley on.
Edit: BTW, when you take off the A/C Clutch, there should be a few thin washers behind it. They are supposed to shim the clutch so there is about 30-35 thousandths of an inch between the pulley and the clutch.
If you are really having a hard time, see if a local junkyard / auto recycler has a A/C Compressor near you. You might be able to get the whole thing for $40 or so. Then, you'll be able to easily see the front of the compressor and take everything apart on the workbench. Then, do the same thing on the car, and install the pulley from the junkyard A/C compressor. IOW, buy it for the learning experience and then use it for parts. Win - Win
