I have a dodge Stratus 1995.2.4L sedan and my transmission cannot switch to higher gear but there is not a problem in opposite direction and keeps the Rpm very high all the time.
what should be the reason

Sounds like it is stuck in "Limp Home Mode". Which is locked to 2nd gear forward, or reverse. It could be triggered by any number of different things ranging from as simple as low trans fluid, to all but full trans internal failure (in which case you're not going anywhere). You'll need to give us more information about what you checked already, mileage, when the last time it was serviced, etc...

Default transmition problem with Dodge Stratus 1995/ 2.4L

Thanks for replying,
The mileage of the dodge are 148,000 and basically I do the main services of the car.
yes it sounds like sticks to 2nd or 3th gear forward and can go to higher gear. When I drive in this situation i swich to "3" and after that to "D" position again and nothing happent I ment that the rpm are the same in the both situation . In this situation when i push the gas pedal the rpm just increase and not going to higher gear.
But I almost forgot the car from to time to time fixs by itself and starts to run normaly without any problems but this happent two times during the last month but now it is in constantly bad conditions.
I went to Cottman service they checked out the car and said that the car needs to replace the Solenoid block and the two speed sensors if the pan drop checking is good(it means there is no deposits matter at the bottom of trans)If there is deposits the whole transmition needs to be replace.

It runs to around 40ml/hour with normal rpm(I mean around 2000rpm)and after that to go further it has to increase the rpm constantly and stay stick to same gear.

thanks again very much!!!!

I look to hearing with you soon

knowing that the issue comes and goes, but is getting progressively worse, I would say to go ahead and change out the solenoid pack. It's actually quite easy with a couple 10mm (IIRC) sockets, and a long extension. I replaced the gasket between my solenoid and the trans housing, took a couple hours and a case of beer. Thinking back, it wouldn't have taken anywhere as long if we didn't have the beer...

As your looking at your engine bay from the front, you'll see a black plastic box attached to the top of your trans, with a wire harness bolted in near the top. That's what you're looking to replace. I would pick up a quart of ATF+4 trans fluid, since you will lose some when you take the solenoid off.

I would hold off on the speed sensors ($$$) until you see what the new solenoid does for you. That gasket is known to cause problems and if its bleeding between holes, it'll mess with the trans and the computer will lock it down (2nd-rev only, like you're seeing).
