I just recently purchased this vehicle, and noticed when I started taking it apart. That the previous owner had the timing belt break and he had put solid lifters on 18 of them and 6 of them were hydraulic lifters. Quickly i realized he didnt have it timed properly. about three teeth off, then i noticed the tensioner pulley was not tightened properly.
I have decided to replace all 24 lifters with hydraulic lifters as stated in manual. Worried it was severe damage to the valve train, valves checked out okay, and before I had purchased this stratus I took it for a test drive and only symptoms i noticed were ticking or tapping, car run well though, caught me off gaurd ( normally pistons are smashed up ) because of my limited number of experiences with belt snapping, i'm wondering if light damage was done, and thats only to the valve train due to belt snapping at a lower RpM. intake looks like a wedding cake of oil smudge, im getting that sand blasted this week.
