2005 stratus P0491 code
Hello folks;
After searching for over 2 weeks I ran out of option and I'm posting in here hoping some of the members have an answer for me.
I own a 2005 dodge stratus with 120k on it. It is my daughter car but I maintained it for her. About 98K I had the timing belt redone along with the water pump. The problem with this car is that there are too many variation, infact even the mechanic who did the timing belt got screwed during the estimates process. Anyway I'm pulling a code P0491 which mean the secondary air pump. Unfortunately this fricking pump is not where to be found except at dealers for close to $300 bucks. The dealer also recommend to change the check valve the hoses and the relay so I'm looking at possibly $500.00 for a car that old with so many miles which is worth maybe $ 2K at best. Heck in some auto parts warehouse it show my car uses a EGR valve which does not !!!It is a California certified car and they change many option of the Emission system. Spending $500 for a components that only works for 20 seconds pisses me off but I need to pass smog hence my problem. The next problem is trying to locate the MAF; normally is located between the air filter and the throttle body but no there in fact I was reading the MAF is located next to the air pump...
Does any one have any experience with the California version of a stratus?
I'd like to test the MAF before I do anything with the pump. Besides the pump works it goes on and I can hear the vacuum cleaner like noise when i start cold for about 20 sec that is.
Thank you
