Default 2000 cirrus 2.5 need help

my wifes cirrus is haveing troubles, here is the short version. started out we have had the car since 2005, been a great little car. but it started leaking trans fluid and she kept putting some in it and finally after she said she was putting 2 qts a week in it, she never told me how much it was leaking, i decided tot ake it to get the filter changed and new gasket. she also said sometimes the car wounldnt get over 45 miles an hour and it lacked power. well i start the car, the first start of the day, and drive it about 4 miles to the shop, put it on the rack and felt the cat converter, it was really hot. so i decided to have them cut it open and clean it out while it was there. so they did that and the filter and fluid and gasket. we get it back and it runs great, always has minus the fuel pump going out, anyway i drove it bout 16 miles round trip, heater blew hot air, temp stayed with in normal, but when i parked it and shut it off you can hear water boiling. so i thought maybe i looked atthe gauge wrong and turned the key back on, it was in the normal range. i let it cool off and checked the water it was full, even had the over flow up to the line as it should be. why would the water boil if it isnt over heated? i do all my own work it other than this, i have worked 28 out of the last 36 days and they were 12 hour shifts, so i took it to the shop this time. the thermostat wasnt sticking cause it blew out hot air, the fan comes on atthe radiator, im only getting one day off a week so i dont have time to trouble shoot everything. im thinking maybe the thermostat didnt open all the way. or can it be the water pump?
