Recently bought used 2000 Dodge Stratus, and satisfied with it except that it rides really rough--like I'm riding in a wheel barrow. What is most likely wrong...thanks for responding.

 

You could have a broken spring in the suspension, or most likely a bad strut. The struts are probably due to be replaced, and arent too expensive. While doing that you can inspect the springs.

If the car feels 'loose' at all, bushings need replaced. Also inspect the ball joints, the seals shouldnt have cracks in them.

 

Dependnign on mileage, I concur, probably time for struts and a thorough inspection fo the suspension and steering components, check the brakes too. Did you test drive it before buying?

 

Thanks for responding; yes, I did take it for test drive, and noticed it was a rough ride, but didn't realize it was as bad as I found out. I bought it from a reputable garage/dealer, who maintains that had there been anything wrong, such a struts, etc. they would have made necessary repairs. But it's hard to believe a car would ride this rough.
