Straight up advice. I like that. Thanks!

Anyone care to offer a dissenting opinion? (i.e. what are you nuts, it's worth putting the money in to repair this. I did and never regretted it for a second kind of thing?)

Are you sure you're not thinking of the 2.5L (aka 6G73 mitsu). All the chrysler 2.7Ls ran chain.
$3-4k worth of work for a car that's blue booking for 2k or so doesn't make much sense to me. This is my daily driver for a commute to work, I put 6k miles a year on it. I'm better off getting a beater honda for that $3-4k.
It makes far more sense to stick money into a car you know, then to buy a different used car, that'll you'll have to stick money into anyway.

Fix the one you have, spend $3-4k, or,
Buy a different car for $3-4k, Spend more money to register it, then, spend $X to fix whatever goes wrong shortly after you buy it (It will happen), end up spending $6k and still have NO idea what you have.

Sorry about that rant, but this is the dumbest excuse I hear for people to buy another used car. Well I can buy a different car for that. Yes, you can, but remember, that car will also need work.

I overheated, multiple times. So I'm not positive I don't have head gasket issues to go along with the water pump/timing chain risk. I've also been warned of potential sludge issues (thoughts?).

I considered your thinking, the devil you know, etc. I personally think I'm better off with a mechanic inspected Honda. Easier to work on for myself, and cheaper future repairs if I need mechanic assistance.

I can respect that.
The 2.7 had sludge issues, if they weren't maintained well, true. Well maintained they can easily break 200k. Our had 217 when I sold it, it still ran like new.
