Swap engine
Hi,im new here, have a big problem I swap the engine from my 2005 dodge stratus 2.4,I put in a 2.4 but from a 2002 model, into now I noticed that computer was different and the car only cranks no star at all, please help me in what to do.
Engines prior to 2003 use "SBEC" Powertrain Control Modules. The engine you just installed requires this. The SBEC PCM has two connectors.
Your 2005 is PCM called "NGC", (Next Generation Controller) PCM.
The pre 2003 engines have a different trigger wheel than the 2003+ engines which is read by the crank position sensor. Clearly this will prevent your car from ever starting.
If i remember correctly, the 2003+ engines have the crank sensor on the front, and on the pre 2003 the crank sensor is on the back. Either way, you'll need an engine from 2003+ stratus, sebring, or PT Cruiser for use in your 2005.
Hope this helps.. happened to me about ten years ago. Completely installed the wrong engine.

Coupe engine will NOT work.
Whats wrong with your engine?
Hi There, I made the mistake of not fully checking out all the facts about putting a 2005 2.0 engine into a 2000 Neon. Can you tell me if I went and got a PCM from a wrecked 2004 neon and put it into the car, would that solve the no start problem, or does it have to be from a 2005. I did run the Crank position sensor connector wiring from the back of the engine to the front thinking that would work, then I read your thread, and I realized there was more to it..
I completely rebuilt the engine so I don't want to give up on it, the car is in great shape and the engine is all new parts. I am prepared to rewire it, but then I was also told that if it has a chip key that adds more issues, my 2000 doesn't have that. Any input would be appreciated. I hvae done something like this before, I put a GTI motor into a diesel Rabbit, it was lots of fun figuring the wiring starter circuit out, but I did on the first try and it ran great for along time.
thanks for any input, HELP!!!!
