1999 Dodge Stratus Driver Side Strut Assembly
I put new Strut Complete strut Assemblies one on each side, less than two years ago. I only drive around in the city and not that many miles like maybe 3,000 miles a year. So anyway I started hearing a knocking sound that sounded to me like it was coming from under the hood on the drivers side Maybe like , top of Strut . I took car to Major tire company / mechanic shop to have them look at it Cost more than 50 bucks and I went to talk to the mechanic that was looking at my Stratus. He said something like the noise the sound is coming from the top of the Strut mount,// a little piece of Rubber is worn out up in there is what mechanic told me The mechanic motioned to the strut mount I got the bill And the Bill had worn out Strut Mount Bearing on it> and an over $$1,200.00 estimate to put two new Strut assemblies on the Stratus and that was without the Alignment. I have since been trying to research this Possibility that it is a top strut Bushing that some how went out wore out or something. . The Stratus does not have a strut bearing per say. I have found shock top mount kits and they have 2 Bushing like pieces and a sleeve to fit over the shock shaft, and a couple of washers. I found a video of a Man taking off his strut and puting on the spring compressors getting the strut mount with upper control arm off and taking out a One piece (part) from the top of the strut shock. I think maybe this one piece is actually three pieces the two bushings and the Sleeve that fits over the Strut shock But I do not know. I am working in my gravel drive way I hate the idea of using a spring compressor and taking the chance that I can do that without hurting myself. Also I do not know if that is really the problem. or not. But if it is then that would be the best fix because both struts have worn the same snd all of that Can anybody with front end experience give me any Advice please Thanks a bunch .
Hello Update . According to the second opinion front end left Sway bar link worn out . Got fixed drives better no more Clunking noises from that side. Thanks for reading
