Default Pays to read the owners manual!

My 05 SXT coupe had been running a bit "ruffer" than normal the last 1500 miles or so. I was about to take it in and have the dealer look it over, but for giggles I looked the owners manual over and noticed that the plugs are to be changed every 30K. This is the first car I have owned that required a change out at such short intervals. I was under the impression that Japanese engines run their plugs for at least 80K.
I have almost 29K on the clock, so I deduced that the plugs were shot and that was the cause of the "ruff running". I replaced the stock crapions (champions) with some NGK Irridium Plugs $7.00 Each (ouch). Now looking over the old plugs, and comparing them to the picture chart in the back of my Chiltons manual, they show evedence of excessive heat. Being worried I called up Dodge and they told me that the 2.4G Mitsu motor is known for cooking the plugs, and that is the reason for the 30K change-outs.

Now I would like to ask my fellow Dodge/Mitsu drivers if I was fed a load of crap or does this have some truth in it. I would also like recomendations on my next set of plugs I did a little research on the NGK and had them recomended by a Lancer driver that worked at the autoparts store. I went with them this time, but would like to have more info for my next changeout. I do drive about 17K a year so that is not to far off.

Thanks in advance for all you help, and for having this great site.

That would be good to know. I've had mine for roughly 10 months now and just passed up 30,000 miles. I drive ALOT. I have noticed a bit of a change in its driving style, but figured it had something to do with the weather change since it just got pretty warm in what seemed like overnight. I'm gonna have to check up on this.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good set of plugs for the sedan (2.4l)?

Thanks in advance and the warning.

Update!

So far I am about 250 miles into these new plugs and I am very happy. Gas mileage is improved consideribly, I'm talking 5-6 MPG here!
Pick up is better and the engine is now day one smooth again.

To above post: Your sedan does not have the same engine as my coupe even though they are the same size, though you should be able to get the same type of plugs I did.

I am ordering these same plugs for my Wifes 01 Sebring Convertable's 2.7 Rockauto.com had them for the best price.

I will post again when I run this tank dry.

Stratus 2.4L SEDAN owners -- a TSB specifies a change in spark plugs from the OEM and recommends swapping out the wires at the same time. (Been there ... done that.)
