Coolant rust Help!!
Ok here's the deal I apologize up front for this bieng long. I have a friend that has an 01 stratus 2.4L. The other day she said there was alot of brown stuff coming from the bottom of her car. She tried to drive it and it overheated. I went to take a look at it today and all the coolant is rust color! It looks like it is leaking from the back of the water pump where the water line connects, I'm assuming there is a rubber seal there like on my car. Here are my questions:
1) is there a rubber seal there on that water line?
2) Can I get away with changing that seal and flushing the system or do I have to change the water pump?
3) In the case I have to change the water pump, does anybody have a write up or tech article I can read. Some tips and tricks to make the job easier would also be nice
4) Should I change the timing belt while I'm in there, What else should I change?

As for rust, that can be common to a poorly maintained system. Definatly have it and the radiator flushed in the repair process.

This friends car is a Coupe, not a 4 door, correct?
If it is a 4 door, everything I have shown you may be incorrect(sorry).
The parts manual simply referances my 3.0L V6 for part item #3 (which is both pumps) I figure they omitted referance to the 2.4, although it is shown. My parts book is mostly for the Stratus RT Coupe with V6

I was afraid of that, I should have asked first, sorry.
As for the Mitsubishi Stratus, that is technically what the 2 door coupe is, as Mitsubishi built it.
