Default a/c issues

I have an 01 Stratus SE, I bought it last year from a federal auction (only 14,000 miles then!!) Great car, good handling, surprising power for a four banger.

Here's my problem: a/c is cold for about ten minutes then blows hot, freon checks out ok, if I change it to defrost a/c kicks in again, if I move it back to normal vents (blowing at me) a/c stops cooling after ten minutes again. if I leave the vents on defrost a/c will remain on.

Anyone out there seen this before? What did you do to fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help

My a/c in my 98 stratus was cooling for a bit then not putting out cold air..did this for about 2 months, next thing I know the compressor clutch broke off..we have to have that fixed here soon as its getting hot, so I may not know much about it but I do know my car was doing similar, so maybe check your a/c compressor/clutch. Good luck, being without a/c sucks!

i have a 02 stratus. does the a/c compressor really cut out? when i move my vent controls it sounds like they are vacum operated, possible leak? check to see if your evap/condsr cores are pluged, overheating r134 would be caused by an air flow block and shut down the system. seeing a LOT of water drain after shutting down? evap core may be icing over. be nice to know what you find.
