Default Fan blower question

I am new here and wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions before I take it to the dealer. All of a sudden the fan for ac/heat will not blow unless it is turned to the highest setting. I thought it might be a fuse but I checked those and it was running so I didn't think that it would be that and it wasn't. I have a 2000 Stratus ES with 2.5L engine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

James

I have the exact same problem and am thinking about replacing the heater/ac control assy. I'm hoping you get a better answer here, because I'm hoping for a cheaper fix.

I just replaced the blower motor resistor and my problem is fixed. It's under the glove box, as described in the jeremybillie thread. Cost $27 from the dealer. Now I just gotta wait and see if the blower motor itself is also a problem, again as described in the mentioned thread. good luck

What year is your Stratus? I just went through the same thing on my 2003, for which there is a Technical Service Bulletin describing how to replace the OEM flat metal resistor pack with a more robust-looking, thicker unit. In this case, I do not think the motor itself is to blame; I suspect the original made-in-Mexico resistor packs were too wimpy to handle the current. Anyway, the new one works like a champ, and the only trick was having to cut away the plastic shelf on the mounting bracket.

had the same problem in my 02 stratus. took it to the dealer, they replaced a relay. cost about 1/2 hr labor + $12 for the relay. works fine now. have read at other sites that the fan on the way out may cause the relay to blow. hope this helps.
