I am debating about adding some interior lighting (neon) to my stratus depending on how a test run looks like. I know I will want to do a relay since it will be hooked up to the battery. What would be the best way to get it to turn on during night? I assume something along the lines of using the head lights line but i really don't want to splice into any existing wiring.

What do you recommned?

I'm not incredibly familar with adding lighting, but as for accesories, I would reccomend going straight to your fuse box, and either a) jumping with your head lights, or b) (the right way) and adding a direct fuse with the battery, and a switch or button to turn them on. just my .02

it will look like this...

i have one 24" neon tube...attatched to my sunroof cover...the wiring runs under the a pillar. i have a little red box under my dash whch is plugged into the cig lighter, and my neon plugs into that

Did you wire in a switch, just plug it in when neccesary, or is there some other means of turning it on and off?

BadStrat, Are you saying you would actually drive your car with those light on? or is that only when you open your doors?

what is the best way to tape into the line for say the head lights?

I know I should hook up the power source directly to the battery and that I will need a fuse. But how is the best way to splice into the wire for the head lights (so it comes on at the same time)? Minimal damage is prefered since I am unsure if I will keep them in the car or not and don't want to have to rewire the car later on.

don't go to the head lights!! if for some reason that circut can't take the load you will be stuck in the dark at night. use the dome light wires, you can turn it off/on at will, no biggie if it blows, and you can alway get another color dome light.

my big problem with going to the headlights is saftey. those circuts were planned to take only so much of a load and it would be a "B" if they blew out at the wrong time. just my 2 cents. good luck.

That does make sense. But the big thing i'm trying to figure out is the best way to splice or cut into the wire.
