Default New Rims?

This is my first time writing on this site so bear with me. I just bought a 2004 stratus sxt coupe and I would eventually like to put rims on it. I hear that the 00-05 can take up to 20 inch rims but im leaning more towards 18s or 19s. I have been looking around at all different manufactures out there. If I put 18 or 19 inch rims on my car I will obviously need bigger tires. How much will this upgrade throw my speedo off, and how much does it cost to have it recalibrated. Also I have been hearing that if I put bigger rims on then I will need better brakes. Any information will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks in advance.

well i went with 18s on my 02 strat i have some pics u can check them out. They really haven’t messed with my spedo that much so i didn’t even bother with a recalibration. Also if you go bigger then 18 ur starting to loose ride comfort. With 18 u can still put a decent tire on to absorb a lot of the bumps in the road and such. I had already upgraded my brakes before i bought the rims b/c mine were shot when I bought them. I went with bendix pads for the front and the back, and got some cross drilled and slotted rotors for the front. They have helped out a lot since i tend to be a spirited driver

You can go with up to 19" wheel with no issues. You can put a 20" wheel on the Stratus coupes, but it requires a lil work and to be honest....its not worth it. They require entirely too small a tire for constant daily driving, and since you already have a slow car with the 2.4L motor, it would make it even worse.

My Strat R/T is lowered and has a 17" wheel on it. I think it looks very clean and very nice. It keeps a good amount of rubber on the tire but also gives me a less wheel well look.

Here's some pic's...

I got the wheels/tires from Edge Racing. They're 17" Flik Wasps (Gloss Black) on Falken Ziex ZE512 tires. I'm running the stock size, 215/50/17. The bolt pattern on our cars is 5x114.3. I paid $752 for my tires and wheels delivered to my house. I like them, havent got any complaints as of yet. If your interested in a good deal....I'd suggest www.edgeracing.com

About a half dozen or so of us have ordered wheels/tires off this site already....and I know a few others who are planning to this summer. Good luck with your decision!

17 or 18 inch is the way to go. First of all ride comfort is acceptable. Tires are relatively cheap. 17's are damn cheap. Also you dont want to make your car look ghetto do you? Even upgrading to the R/T rims is a cheaper nicer looking alternative.

Thanks for the info guys. I really appreciate it. I think I might look into getting some stock r/t rims since they look a lot nicer than what I have.

I'm not sure how it works with 20's but, you should look into eibach's lowering springs. There still seems to be that huge gap between the tire and the body. Looks sweet though, nice lookin' strat. How is your turning radius by the way as these are notorious for sucking when it comes to tight turns?

The R/T's have a different suspension then the SXT's if I'm not mistaken.....and while I dont want to say B.S. on the 20's without mods......why does your car look like it has twice the normal wheel well space then a stock ride? That looks really, really weird.....

I bought mine and it was that height, as far as no mods to fit 20s I can pull a wheel off and take pics to show ya there was nothing cut to make them fit if you would like, it is close but no rubbing. Now if I lowered the car I would have some issues but thats not going to happen as this is my daily driver and I live in MN where we get snow.

Could just be the angle of the picture making it look weird. I wasnt trying to imply you were being dishonest, just that it looked weird.
