Default Engine steaming but not overheating

I have a '00 stratus 4 dr w/ a 2.4. After it heats up to normal temp. it starts steaming and smells like antifreeze, but the temp gage doesn't show hot. The coolant level stays the same, but I hear a boiling or bubbling sound coming from the overflow tank. The waterpump, coolant, and thermostat were replaced about a year ago. The fans work normally, and the only thing that looks abnormal in the coolant is some small rusty looking chunks. If anyone has experienced this or has any suggestions, please post them. Thanks

If it is steaming from the exhaust (white exhaust), then you most likely have a cracked head, or blown headgasket.

the rust in your coolant means it's time to have your cooling system flushed (BEFORE it clogs your rad). this happens sometimes when De-Ionized (DI) water is not mixed with the antifreeze. DI water is basicly water that is purified so that it will not extra stuff in it (like tap water does).

i wouldn't worry about the coolant going into the overflow tank as this happens with all cars (as coolant gets hotter and takes up more room and goes to the "expansion" tank). as for the steam, check the hose that goes from the rad to the expantion tank. if it looks good try a new rad cap with factory rated press. hope this helps, good luck.
