Default How to maintain and improve the gas mileage of stratus?

i heard that there are many ways of improving the gas mileage.

use the gumout gas mileage improver is one way. balance the tires pressure is another way.

so what's the other ways?
i need to know because i will start to use my lovely stratus to commute for the following semester.
i don't want to spend tons of money on the gas......the gas price is still high and never tends to decrease. too bad!

thx for ur suggestions!

A few quick and basic things you can do are. . .
change your oil and oil filter
change your air filter maybe upgrade to a k&n filter
depending how many miles, changing your spark plugs will help as well.
I don't know about the gumout stuff, but using a fuel injector cleaner every other time you fill up will also keep everything inside nice and clean, and they are like 2 bucks at any gas station.

yea, the air filter need to be changed, but wut's k&n filter? is it a brand name? different from farm?

the spark plug, i changed it about 4 months ago....but i'm going to change a better one next week, my fd suggests me to use NGK's spark plug.

yea! fuel injection cleaner is so important, thx for ur remind.

Questions:

and maybe i should order a 8.5mm performance wire, will a larger wire helps with the gas mileage? thx!

actually, does it matter which brand and watt of engine oil i use? i mean relate to the gas mileage.

how many air pressure should be in my tires? i get 32 lb. now. FYI, my startus weight about 3450 lb. it's I4 not V6.

OK! THX FOR UR INFO.!!!!!!

Are you seriously asking who K&N is? Wow that's the first time I've seen that. Anyway, K&N makes the most popular air filters around. It's basically an oiled cotton filter that keeps out 90 something percent of dirt particles. Changing your spark plugs are only a good idea if you are having problems or have high mileage. If you've been using cheap oil, try using a flush out (like GUNK) and add it to your crankcase before changing your oil. Let it circulate for 5 minutes then change oil and filter. Upgrade to a better oil. I am currently using Royal Purple. It's expensive but damn good stuff. That and Mobil 1 are all I will use depending on what's available. For air pressure, look at what is written on the tire (Do not exceed ?? psi). Subtract like 4 or 5 from that number and use that to maximize gas mileage. And check tire pressure once a week.

Some other minor things that don't help much but do help.

-Wash and wax your car regularly, even a little bit of dirt causes resistance.

-if your going over 35mph have your windows up and run the air, sure you lose power to the engine but you don't lose mpg. And if you are that worried about gas milage then you don't need that extra power

-Don't drive like a maniac all the time

-Keep up to date on car maitenence

-If you want best performance run MiD test gas, besides thats what most cars should run on anyhow.

I do all of these things and the other things that have been mentioned and I've gotten as high as 28mpg. avg

the two biggest things that effect/improve gas milage are tire press and eng tune. the harder the tire is the less the motor has to work to "push/pull" the car. as stated go with the max press on the side of the tire. as far as eng parts, go with stock. when you start to get into "performance" parts you must look at the cost vs inprov factor.

a good example is the K&N air filter. they can run $30-100+. yes, you can clean and re-oil them (if you buy the recharge kit). yes, they flow better than a fram air filter, BUT not untill you hit between 40-60% of max eng rpm (make/model). if your looking to save gas/money you don't want to put the pedal to the metal anyway. so if you get the k&n, recharge every 6/12 months you still spend more than replacing the fram. happy motoring.
