Default Timing on 2.4L DOHC?the mark

I followed the Hayes guide EXACTLY, got the crank at just a fuzz left of the mark, got the camshafts exhaust 1/2 tooth below the intake and when I engage the tensioner, all is sweet and matching the illustrations in the book EXACTLY. Also cranked it over by hand 2 revolutions- which says marks should line back up at that point- and they do. PROBLEM: runs like crap at idle speed, kind of lopes when stopped at lights and wants to stall when I first start it up- but runs fine over 1100 RPM.

And suggestions?

(For reference, I had to change out the water pump and since I was there.... everything got new belts- timing included.)

i don't know if it's the same for you, but on my 97 i had to go in with our chrysler scantool and do a cam re learn, that may or may not apply to your vehicle but is worth looking in to

Sorry- haven't been back in a long time... fix was:

DOHC has TWO marks on each cam gear... they ALL have to line up... just lining up the 2 in center can mislead and actually still have the timing off.

Has any one had the problem of the car feel like it is being held back at first throtle, and after you get going it is fine. Does that sound like a timing thing?
