Default hood question (suggestions or ideas)

I have an 01 R/T, the paint on my hood was cracking a little when i got it and the underside has some rust on the lip. My guess is that by spring after all the snow and salt i get here in Ny that the rust will have advanced to the top of the hood. Its definatly salvagable if i were to just sand it all down and repaint it but is it worth it? i know new ones from a dealer are like $1400. A real joke if you ask me. I saw a real sweet fiberglass hood with the viper cowel in it for like $325 after shipping. Has anyone ever gotten this hood and if so how does it fit. It says direct bolt on but you know how that stuff goes. If you have seen any other options as far as hood for these cars let me know, thanks

naval jelly KILLS rust. had to change out a flywheel off a 1965 outboard. picked up a used one from a junkyard. needless to say the flywheel was COVERED in rust. put the jelly on and washed off 15min later, looked like it just came back from the machine shop.

i'm sure it will eat the paint too unless you cover the area with wax or some other type stuff (vasoline) but, it will take care of the rust. good luck.
