Dual Exhaust
Hi, I have a 2.4L 4 Cyl 98 stratus and I juts got a 3A Racing muffler put on and love the way it sounds and looks. I was wondering if I could put on a second one on the opposite side and have both sound the same as my one right now. Thanks for any replies!!

i havent seen the stratus with duals in person, but i have seen 4 cyl 3G eclipse, which, if you have a coupe, is the same under carriage. it looked awful. because of the location of the gas tank and rear suspension, you cant put the Y pipe to create duals untill it gets behind the tank. so what he basically did, was to leave the single exhuast there, but have someone plasma cut a hole in one side of the pipe, and weld the same size pipe, then go clear across the back of the car to the other muffler. he then had 2 up-sweep dual tip mufflers, so a total of 4 tips, and it wasnt anywhere near as loud as my 3.0 with custom single exhaust. it seemed like alot more troble than it was worth, plus iu think you only have a single exhaust hump cutout in your bumper...the only way i would try putting duals on mine would be if i got a body kit with dual muffler humps. i really dont think youd gain anything more than appearance.
What do you mean it looked awful please explain a little bit more, Under neath my car behind the gas tank is enough space to tuck the pipe if i wanted it to go there, so it would be haning down near the ground, as for sound, if i got the duals, would each be just as loud as the one i have now, or only half as loud thanks
well, the concern is the depth of the area from the tank to the bumper skin. you would have to run the new pipe across, then have a 90 degree angle, which is pretty restrictive. also, if you have a pipe welded into the side of the current pipe, as a T it isnt as function. while some air would go through the new pipe the flow goes the easiest direction, so the majoriy of the flow woudl still go through the current muffler. to even the flow, and have equal sound, it woudl be better to have a Ywith the axle pipe being the bottom of the Y, and each top part being one of the mufflers, or the pipe leading to the muffler. i am not disputing that it could be made to look good, but i wouldnt expect any great gain in sound, or performance.

Here's a picture of duals on a 97 sounds great as throaty as single was I left the worrying about the piping to the muffler dude. Later

Sounds like you got the wrong muff. You should have got one with 2 outlets & had pipes bent to go where you wanted them to go out. It's not a true dual exhaust, but not many 'Newer Model' cars are. 'bird

dude, if all you want is looks then I say go for it. But i know for a fact in will not give you any performance. Unless the "duals" are from the motor back, your not going to gain anything. Beside being a I-4 you cant have "true" dual exhaust.
