$600 to fix an exhaust leak, damn, buy yourself a welder and patch it yourself !! Lol, actually get a look at it, and you could probably fix it with a pair of muffler clamps, and an old can off beans, and wire snips.

Mine hasn't got any problems with the head gasket, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you do, it isn't really a big deal, head bolts, and complete gasket set $85 after coupons @ AAP, and its really not that hard to do... Advance auto parts has had a great coupon for parts. If you need some check them out. $35 off $85 ) If you maximize the discount that works out to 41% off. You can do pick up instore to avoid shipping charges, or bump your order above $75 to get free shipping (my order shipped from Ohio). I bought the 2.25 ton trolley jack which was at max discount to bump it up. Im repairing, my oil light, plugs n wires, fuel filter, pcv valve and hoses for under $100. Pretty stoked.

It was pretty funny, I was looking at the engine after posting the other day, looking for where my pcv valve was, and found it, but decided to check my plugs n wires. Pulled one boot off, and left the wire and clip on the plug.. realized right there ..., that's probably the reason for the rough idle.

In anycase, good luck with your car

2000 Stratus 2.4. About 160k. The only stopper since I got it at 89k with body damage has been 2 episodes of fuel pump troubles.

2000 Cirrus 2.5. About 230k. Bought as dealer demo at 6k. 2 stoppers over the years. First was timing belt that failed 30k after replacement. About $3000 in re-man heads, tensioner and idler, and other assorted items. Second was a distributor that was no big deal except that I had to have the ECM flashed to talk to the new ( used ) distributor.

Both have had minor issues ( Trans output sensors for both, occasional bulbs, thermostats, heater fan resistors etc ). Other than normal brake wear, the Stratus needed real brake hoses when one closed down ( heat from exhaust pipe? ). Other than body work from collisions I've had no other surprises.

Ive got 232,000. Just now having a cryptic won't-start problem I'm attributing to a mangled timing belt.

2001 2.4L Stratus - Just replaced one rear strut assembly will finish the job tomorrow. I just had the front suspension worked on a couple of months ago lower and upper arms and struts. The engine has been great with just a valve cover gasket replacement. Had the water pump replaced a year or two ago. The heater motor resister has went out twice. I hope it runs for good bit longer with all the money on the suspension I just put in it.

The wifey bought a 2002 Stratus Sedan with the 2.4DOHC/auto setup brand new before we met. The car currently has 158,6xx miles on it. Normal wear/tear items have been replaced. Other items that had to be replace are the drive axle, radiator/hoses and transmission solenoid.

Outside of that, its been trouble free and a good daily driver. I'll drive this thing until the wheels fall off.

Wow. Feel pretty good on this one seeing all those high mileage.

Bought a 2001 fleet sedan at auction with 28,000 on the odometer. With full maintenance records, it was better cared for than I would have done. I resoldered the A/C control panel board switch because of intermittent operation and will find out if successful next summer. Otherwise it's great, except for a questionable smell of exhaust at idle when the fan is pulling in outside air, but don't see any leaks in the pipe, and changing a few pipes and hoses only because of age.
