Default Muscle Car Sound?

I have been dreaming of ways to modify my car and while a turbo or a
supercharger would be ideal, I want to give my car a new sound..

I like the way it sounds now, but I am hoping to give my Stratus R/T a
more "Modern day badass" look and feel. II'd like to have it sound like
an old school muscle car, and I was wondering how would I go about
doing that?

I know I could just put a straight pipe on it, but could that lead to like failing inspections with emissions and crap?

I guess I'm asking how I make it loud?

headers and big exhaust would make it loud, but you really needa v8 to get that great rumble that the old muscle cars had. look at exhaust systems, and see if you can get sound clips of them installed on your type of car.

if you wanted to, you could talk to your local muffler shop and have them put cut-outs on your car, but that would still be illegal.

I've heard some V6's that sounded like V8's at an idle and it was because of a free flowing exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers. If you want to stay legal and have a V8 sound get one size larger exhaust, headers, high flow catalytic converters and Flowmaster mufflers. For best results make it a true dual exhaust, instead of a 2 into 1 into 2 like most have. The only drawback is that it may sound like a V8 when idling, but it will still sound like a V6 when you accelerate.

rodrunners pretty right on, i had a v6 mustang a while back and was
looking for that same sound out of it. i had them put on two seperate

2 1/2" pipes, both right from the cats to their own flowmaster 40
series exhaust, and that made a decent rumble at idle. at acceleration
it sounded like a v6 doing an impersonation of a v8. no one was
gonna mistake it for an 8, but it made me smile still every time i hit
the gas. it was a respectable note. i put the same setup later on on my
gt, and it made that nice gurgle sound as i'd slow down, ohhh man that
made me drool a little. cant wait to put it on my truck.

Yep, my friend's 1991 Pontiac Firebird 3.1L sounds like a 350 at idle, but when it hits about 2,000-6,000RPM it sounds like a chainsaw! Now since you say Stratus R/T, I have no idea if you mean Coupe or Sedan. If you are working w/ a sedan model, you have a good start. My grandmother has a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Sedan LXi w/ the 2.7L and it sounds pretty darn good for a V-6. Has great torque too. Could try a Borla exhaust, they make some great exhaust for V-6 models.

The best company ive found is RAVEN. I got my raven Z55 through Midas it cost about $180. It dosent use fiberglass packing like alot of high performance mufflers, instead it has a stainless steel system inside that's designed to filter out high frequency exhaust notes giving you the low tones you want. I put it on my 97 stratus 2.4L DOHC and it sounds awesome! I was shaking the windowson the house, and sometimes just reving the engine is enough to set off car alarms at the club. Ididother stuff to the engine, but this makes everything sound good.

they may not have "a direct fit" set up. as for mufflers and stuff that is the easy part to make it fit but if you want cat back that will take some custom bending to make fit.

I have a 98 cirrus with the 2.5L and I cut off 1 of the resinators and put a flowmaster on it, it has an awesome deep sound idling but when I accelerate it is get a little high pitched. Like everyone else said your really not going to get that muscle car sound from a V6.
