I was looking around on here and found a link to a website that had a stock corvette raceing a stock 2001 rt10, and the vette won. That viper is even a year newer than mine. Those are average numbers for a late GEN II engine. Now, a C5 Z06puts down about 360-365 RWHP stock. You will probably not like this statement, but if you are loosing by 2 lengths on a 10-90 roll you need to take some performance driving classes.

My friend said his corvette was 415 horespower too. He has a cold air thing of some sort, and an SLP exhaust system. He said its prolly a lil more than 415 now. I think his car is lighter than mine too. I'll just see if he'll let me drive his vette, and he can drive the viper then we'll see if it is just me. I didn't think I was that bad of a driver. I'll try to get ahold of him and race this eveing maybe if he wants too. He gets off work in an hour so I'll be back.

 

Not saying you are wrong on your horsepower calculations for a stock corvette, but i typed in stock corvette horsepower, and I got this page to pop up. It is a 2006 z06 corvette stock. It shows 487 hp, and 465 tq. I don't know if it is true or not but thats what it says completely stock 50 miles on engine.

There is a BIG difference between a 2005 Z06 and a 2006 Z06. You stated 2005, you also stated stock. Does your friends car have popup headlights?

The 2005 has 405HP, or about 360 at the wheels.

The 2006+ has 500HP, or about 420 at the wheels.

I know lots about Vettes, altough most of my knowledge is from the best years in my opinion, 63-67, with the ultimate being the 67 427/435HP tri-power with factory side pipes! Damn thing is out of my price range!

Ok I just got in. We raced in each others cars. It wasn't the best conditions it was raining, well it wasn't when we were raceing but the road was wet. We started from a dead stop this time. Neither one of us had good traction starting out. I pulled ahead of him in the vette really quick, and it didn't seem like I was going very fast compared to what it seems like in the viper. I was maybe a car and a half in front of him at 55 or 60 didn't really look at the speedo that much, but he gained back up on me a lil bit. We shut off at 100 well I did anyways. I beat him by prolly 3/4 of a car. So it must not be all me. I don't understand the vette feels slower than my viper. The viper throws you back in your seat more feels like to me anyways. We raced again from a roll since it was raining. We started at about 10mph. I again jumped way out infront of him right at the start this time maybe 2 or even 2 1/2 cars. He gained slightly back this time. I beat him by prolly 1 1/2 car lengths to 100. Then we switched cars back, and he would beat me by about 2 or 3 car lengths the last 2 times. I thought the vette drove more like a luxury car than an all out sports car, I mean it handled awesome, and had good power, but you didn't feel the harsh driving as much. What would be some good cheap upgrades that I could do to be able to stay up with him?

 

Maybe it is because I am tired, but I give up. You are not sure what you are racing and now you are racing a RT Viper in the rain?

I was sure what I was raceing. I told you. A 2005 corvette. I thought it was stock, but he has a SLP exhaust system, and cold air kit. It wasn't raining when we raced. It had rained about an hour before. I wouldn't do anything to put myself or others in danger. I know I was going pretty fast, but there was no traffic what so ever. I just wanted to know what are the cheapest upgrades you can get for 2000 rt10. I pretty much proved to myself that my car is in top running order, and it wasn't me the driver loseing the race. Its the car isn't as fast as the other. Now I need to try and make it faster. I could prolly sink 2000 to 2500 tops into this car at this time. Any tips on what upgrades would be doable??

Vettekiller, please ,please, please don't be doing this kind of stuff in the rain or any kind of wet surface. We all want you and your viperhangin' around for a long time so please man, save it for when the surfaces are dry.

yea I understand what your saying. I mean I probably should have waited. I looked at the road, and my friend did too we accesed if we thought it was safe or not. I felt it was safe, but I'm not all that smart all the time either. lol If I was a little older, and a little wiser I figure I probably wouldn't have. So I'll admit it was pretty dumb, but its over and can't change that. So anyone got any info about what I could do to this thing?
