A 22-year-old Clark man died Friday morning when the car he was riding in crashed on Colorado Highway 9 about nine miles south of Kremmling.
Passenger Jeffrey Dan Harris was transported from the scene by helicopter to St. Anthony Central Hospital, where he later died because of injuries, the Colorado State Patrol reported.
The driver of the car, Daniel Robbins, suffered minor injuries. Robbins was arrested at the scene on charges of vehicular homicide, a Class 4 felony, and reckless driving.
Robbins, 30, of Phoenix, Ariz., was released Friday night from the Grand County Jail on $25,000 bond, Grand County Undersheriff Walt Eldridge said.
Robbins was driving a 2004 Dodge Viper north on Colo. 9 when he lost control and collided with a guardrail, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The crash happened at about 7:50 a.m. at milepost 128, several miles north of Green Mountain Reservoir, the State Patrol reported.
The initial investigation shows that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, well above the posted 65 mph speed limit, the State Patrol reported. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Colo. 9 was closed for several hours in both directions because of the size of the accident scene. The accident is under investigation.
Trooper Rick Kaspar, who is investigating the accident, could not be reached for comment.
Harris' family also could not be reached.

some people think that driving a Viper fast is a "civilized" experience, but they are wrong... if you dont know how to drive fast the Viper is less forgiving than say a Corvette, after all its basically a street-legal racecar. I have been driving them for 10 years now, cross-country, city/freeway, even on Texas Motor Speedway and I still am cautious when getting behind the wheel.
I have a feeling that it could have been any car with that driver and there still would have been an accident.

I used to live in Kremmling! I know exactly where that is at. The road actually looks quite inviting in both directions. Straight for half mile to a mile at a time, I learned in my intrepid at 75-80 mph that this road is anything but high speed friendly. Many, MANY undulations and dips that you can't see in morning hours with mountains casting shadows. Mile 128 in particular has a fierce dip right at the apex of a slight bend. At 65 this thing is hairy. I just cant imagine anything over 75 in that stretch. Know the roads you tear up. You just have to.
