2004 Viper Pre-ignition and 187 Fault Code
Hello, Im new to this forum, I own a 2004 Viper that has been plagued with many problems over the years. To many to list at this time.
I'm on my 3rd set of cats and the the engine has always suffered form pre- ignition and cylinder detonation since day 1. Obviously, the cause of the cat failure. Dodge fails to address the cause and only addresses the symptom.
My Snap On Modis Scanner (7.02 operating system) is now showing a 187 fault code on 3 cylinders. I believe a 187 is a OBD1 "Fuel Pulse With" issue.
Further more, I took the car over to D & C performance to get another perspective. The end result was Multiple dyno pulls with 500HP at the wheel and....are you ready.... "Pre-ignition & Detonation. TOTAL TIMMING WAS @ 35 degrees. Fuel mixture was good through out the power band.
They suggested extending the fan run time and lowering the Thermostat temperature to bring the cylinder temperature down.
Dodge said they would not change out the Thermostat and... Did not posses the ability to change the fan settings. But, they cant seem to fix the problem!!!
I'm like ----->
The warranty runs out in 1 month. Dodge is all----->
Dodge will not allow me to buy a used car warranty
because the car has an existing problem. Talk about a "Catch-22"
Most repairs & maintenance I can perform my self.
However, I do like to take the car on road trips, so... given its history of "failures" I feel that is only prudent to keep a warranty on the car.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
