That's ridiculous, the Viper doesn't need 700 hp. Then you'll REALLY never be able to afford one...

I agree, 700hp is a bit much stock to keep it under 100 grand.

let's see on my opinion, i slam on the 625hp engine and i top out on 5th gear, but i have one gear left, the economic sixth gear, and the next day, i take out the speed limiters and i go for it again, i won't top out at 5th, i top out at sixth and that may be result 350+mph and i'll black out if i'm too crazy too brake really hard, and the Viper's current engine is something to be proud of, good engineering, not just taking the vette engine and put more of a liter into it, just better bore/stroke and .3l added for the new viper redesign, anyway's i like the 6spd transmission on it too, and if i put the drivetrain on a go kart, it be going faster than nothing lol and ill surely crash

but my main point, our drivetrain is better
and wait for 2007, new viper and drivetrain, POSSIBLY A MANUAL SEVEN SPEED MERCEDES TRANSMISSION WITH SIMILIAR GEAR RATIOS TOO!
The 7-speed Mercedes is an automatic not a manual (unfortuneatly). The top gear ratio is .72 on that transmission, the top gear ratio on the 6-speed T-56 Tremec Borg-Warner used in the Viper is .50. Dodge is better off with Borg-Warner transmissions than with Mercedes who is paranoid of offing a decent overdrive in transmissions that justify having an extreme-economy overdrive (<.50).

i mean, Borg Warner transmission would do, but just make it a 7spd manual that has the same ratios of the current viper, geesh

Will I hope this is true. Hopefully the price wont increase much. Im excited even though I dont have the money for one...yet. And mayb it'll look more like a Viper than a Vette. They can keep the rear of the car (love the rear design esp the Coupe) but the sides and the front needs to be more Viper-ish.

I just read your post on the Ilmor 625 engine. I have 2 of them in my boat. They are exceptional engines. I previously had the Ilmor 550hp. The torque and power band of these engines amaze me, considering I have always been a GM man.
The horsepower, I am told by Ilmor is from an upgraded top end. The heads breathe better and the cam in these 625's hit a mean lick. I would love to see one of these engines in a viper. The torque is unreal.
Also, Ilmor has two great partners. Chrysler and Penske

Yesterday, I met a guy who told me the Ilmor motor uses a cast iron block instead of aluminum. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Steet you still out there?
