True speed!
well, how do we really get 5hp for 1mph. hey, i bike at 10-15mph average. and i don't have like 100 hp. and i was goin 30 mph one day. well, no offense but, gearings do affect the hp to mph thingy. cuz the viper also has torque, remember? well, if you have this extremely long road. and you top out at 5th. you can shift to 6th and wait how long it takes to pass 200mph. well, review that one other post i had
Well ... First the 1 mile per hour for 5 horse power is based on drag. Look it you, it's really, but from 190-200 mph.
Also , top speed is top speed. It does not matter how long a road is.

if it was @ 5th gear @ 190mph @ 5000 something RPM, you'd shift to 6th and drop down the RPM to 2500RPM. something like that. and if you were on a straight and level road, you would possibly gain MPH really slowly w/o the limiter. i don't know if you guys understand THIS now, but it think the new viper can possibly reach 220 mph with new gearings
Well
In the real world it does not work that way. Max. horsepower is reached at high rpms. If a car is moving at 190mph and is turning 2000 rpms it will slow down. No way it can hold 190, plus top speed is normally reached in a 1 to 1 gear. For the viper thats 5th not 6th. After the 1 to 1 gear a car loses it's advange from gearing.
Ok lets look at the 2007 911 turbo vs. the ZO6. The 911 top speed is 193 mph. It has 480 hp, with a CD close to the ZO6. The ZO has a top speed of 198 with 505 hp. In order for a 911 to hit 198 it needs 5 mph. So 1mph =5 hp it needs an extra 25hp. So if it had 25 more hp it would have 505 like the ZO6. 1 mph=5hp between 190 and 200. Thats not a law but a good rule of tumb.
Now back to the viper. The car has a CD of .39, and 510 hp. Their is no way it can hit 199. It needs more power, or has to be slicker. To be honest with you I'm not 100% sure it will hit 199 even if, it were to fall head to tail from an airplane. I'm going to work the math on it and see.
The viper has a few problems. It needs to be design from the start as a coupe not a roadster then put a roof on it. It needs a NEW engine. The V10 is heavy, and only makes 510hp. BMW has a 5 liter V10 that makes 500 hp; that means much less weight. Those two things i think would change the performance alot. I'm not sure if the viper is in the sports car or super car bracket. As a sports car it's awesome, as a super car.....Ok at best.
