PrePurchase Viper Question....
Hi all, I am getting ready to purchase a Viper GtS. I would like some opinions please.
I am currently looking at two 2001 GTS's. One has the ACR package with the radio and air condtionining comfort package added, and the other does not have the ACR package.
They both have about about 11k miles, are saphire blue with silver stripes. The ACR car is listed at 65k dollars and the non acr is listed at 57k.
I have not test driven either car but I like the idea that the ACR car has a more track prepared, tuanble, suspension. I would think it handles better. The guy selling the non ACR car says that in actuallity the non ACR car is a better street driver due to the ACR car having too much bump steer for the street. That it is too stiff, and really meant for true track use. That I would enjoy the non ACR car for street driving. He says he has driven both types and that he prefers the non ACR suspension. That the ACR has too much of an unstable ride for him.
I own a vette right now (i do plan on keeping it) and it has the tighter Z51 suspension package and I just love it. Some vette owners think that this suspension is too stiff and they prefer the softer plain vanilla base suspension of the plain vanilla vette. Again, I prefer a tight suspension so do you guys think that I should stick with the ACR car or that it is ,indeed, tuned for the track and way too radical for the streets even for a guy like me??
Yes, I know I should test drive both vehicles, and I will, but I am not going to get the chance to do so for another week, so I thought I would pass this question by you guys in the mean time.
Please lots of responses as I am starved for this info.
Thanks in advance
Matt

Having had an '01 GTS (sapphire/silver stripes) and then selling it here is what I would do.
If you drive the car occasionally or plan to keep it for the long haul get the ACR. The ACR (in near or bone stock condition) will fetch more money in the long run given its rarity. If its a daily driver and you want to add significant mods to the car get the non-acr version. A bit less "rarity".
The ACR shocks are a pain in the rear to adjust...some owners remove them and put the GTS or another shock on because of that and the stiffness.
If it were me today making the decision, I'd go ACR.

Advice appreciated BadVenm
This weekend I am going to look at a 2001 GTS (no ACR). Its suppose to be in showroom condition. The ACR car however, was sold. Would love to compare both.
Anyone one with an ACR with coments??

Test drive both, go with your gut.
But I think you may want to pass on the ACR.
The ACR is a race machine, heck - it doesnt even have a factory radio (I don't think).
I think the base suspension would be comparable to your Z51 Vette.
