Default Bummer

I just bought a 2001 Viper with 2400 miles, pristine condition, totally stock saphire blue with gray stripes. It's beutiful and waiting for me to pick up from Missouri.
I was planning on towing it myself using my Dodge truck and a Uhaul flat rental trailer.
I got the thumbs up from my dodge dealership that my truck is up for the job, but when I went to the Uhaul folks they said that the Viper will not fit on their trailers.

A transport company is my last resort as I don't trust these guys to not scratch it up.

Does anyone live in the Indianapolis area with an open flatbed trailer that is capable of hauling a Viper they are willing to rent out??

Matt, there are not many Viper owners on this site, however your inquiry was generic in that you needed a trailer. There are many members on the site, however most stay in a few sections, and since they do not have a Viper seldom come in here. If you are looking for a trailer I encourage you to post such a request in

Off Topic
https://dodgeforum.com/forumid_8/tt.htm

Or even in the regional areas
https://dodgeforum.com/forumid_135/tt.htm

Good luck getting the car home. Nothing like driving a car like a Viper around town, especially in the area you are in. There are so few of them people tend to get a little star struck over them. Little less of an effect in states like CA.

On a side note, I had my car delivered from Milwaukee to Toledo. The car hauler that was used would also have not worked unless we used 2"6" to extend out the ramps and gradually get the car up onto the trailer.

What airline do you fly for? I am on NWA planes a few times a month......

Ok The latest,

Found an aircraft mechanic where I work that also has a race car. He has an 16 or 18 ft trailer (can't remember which) that he uses to haul his car all over the place. It is suppose to be the ultimate flat bed trailer for this kind of stuff. He says it will haul a viper. He invited me over to his home tomorrow to have a look. He says I am welcome to use it.

problem with most trailers is that they dont get low enough to the ground for you to actually load a Viper without tearing the front end off...

I have towed several Vipers around with what is called a "roll-back" trailer which allowed the deck to not be at such a great of an incline as most standard flat-bed "car haulers". Just make sure you bring several boards with you to help you decrease the angle the front end as it meets the end of the ramp.Oh yeh and also it helps to have a trailer where you can remove the fenders on it in order for you to open and close the doors to get in and out(doesnt matter if you leave the windows down and/or it a convertible).

I'm in buisness !!

Take a look a the trailer I'll be using to tow my new Viper. The web site boasts a picture of an actual Viper being loaded on to one of their roll back type trailers. This is the exact same trailer my new best friend is going to let me use. ALso checked all my weight limits and I am good. Went and got a second opnion from another dealership on my hitch and all gave me a double thumbs up on my set up.

Also went down to "gasoline alley" here in Inidi (by the race track) where all the racers build their stuff and they showed me first hand how to strap my Viper down onto this trailer.

I am now debating wheter to install an electric brake controller in my truck. The owner of the trailer says I don't really need it but he does recomend it.

Gentlemen it looks like it's a go for haul.

I never used the electric brake feature on the trailer we had when I was pulling cars... just make sure you dont tailgate people just incase! Yeh and I always thought the roll-back was the easiest I ever used to pull really low cars with and you dont have to worry about removing fenders since the deck rolls back.

Why didn't you use the electric brake and what truck and engine size did you use to tow your viper. Also, did you get any scraping of the front air dam area at all as you loaded the viper?

Thanks in advance for your advice

Got the hemi and with the 4 wheels discs it felt good enough to stop fine in dry weather... and I always carry around a couple of 1x12's that are like a couple feet long to put under the front wheels(of the viper as I am loading it) as I rolled it onto the trailer to keep the front end from dragging on the diamond plate deck. Now the trailer did have its own trailer brake system which worked with it roll-back ability but it was supposed to be tied in with an actual electric brake box in the truck of which I didnt have and never found the need to install.

Here is a pic of the trailer I used to have back when I used to use my '01 Toyota Tacoma TRD double cab to drag cars around... and if I didnt have a problem using it you wont have a problem using any half-ton full size!

I also found a pic of my Toy dragging a new 350Z with the same trailer... for some reason I dont have any pics of me using the HEMI...
