I'm amazed at just how many 5.9's there are on here that didn't know about this club till now! The 5.9 is a very stout motor imo. Hemi's may got us on power and torque but the second we bore out our 5.9's we dwarf them.

I do think is a great motor, I just wish my gas millage wasnt so bad, 9mpg in town, and 13 on the highway is killing me lol.

It is sucky mileage but mine isn't much better and I don't know why. However I've always felt the 360/5.9 was a mileage *****. Even the old "LA" 360s I owned were not good on gas. I often wonder if its the basic "oversquare" bore and stroke combined with the cam retarding for emissions purposes.

i get 13 city, and lets just say great milage on highway. i have a 26 gallon tank, went to Maine, 283 miles and it took a little less than half a tank. but it was all highway, and maybe 8 miles city.

you just need to put the right parts in them. im getting that gas milage, and havent changed my plugs yet lol. cant get the heat sheilds off, and the Dist.cap had corrosion in it when i changed it so i can only imagine what the plugs are like. Got a new ported and polished kegger mod intake with hughes plenum, MSD 8.5 mm wires. Accel coil, and im getting that milage.

cant wait to see what its gunna run like when i change the plugs (attempting again tonight lol)

All in all i love the 5.9L. and im only just getting started with her...

I stopped paying attention to my gas mileage. Depression is not a worthy attribute

I stopped worrying about it too, I drive less when gas is high and more when it isn't.

The sad part is that most of my big block cars (back in the day) and even my Roadrunner with the 340 and the Tunnel ram got better mileage.
