I have a 5.9 and when the truck is on and in park and the brake pedal is pressed down there is a single click coming from the instrument cluster and also clicks when it is released. But when it is in gear and pressed it acts normal. Has anyone heard of this before?

yes it is the safety switch on the gear shift that requires you to have foot on the brake in order to put it in gear. the clicking is the gear shift lock going on and off. it does not do it while it is in gear.

maybe take the column cover off and spray some lube in there. white lithium grease would work good

ok that changes things a little, we are all 5.9 GAS engines. there is a section just for cummins they may be able to give you more insight. here is the link https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-cummins-diesel-88/
