Hemi thermostat change?
Hey everyone, I was wondering if changing to a lower temp thermostat would really help produce HP. I know it is not going to be a great gain but every little bit helps. What temp should i change to if i decide to do this. I am not sure which one is stock. Any thought on this would be greatly appreciated.
I know sometimes the thermostat is run as one with the ECU. I added a hypertech program to a buddies truck and changed the thermostat also. The computer asks you what thermostat your running and by that is get's the best HP it can by knowing what degree to run at. If you drop a lower thermosat in there then you may run into probs with the ECU and may have a loss in the power unless your re-program your ECU to run at that temp. Good luck

k2 is right. That motor is designed to run at a certain temp. I put a 160 deg. thermostat in my '94 5.9 and it made the truck a lot more sluggish( the heater heated up fast in the winter however), i switched to a 180, but I think the OE for the 5.9 is a 195, i'm not sure what it is for the Hemi(i'm still old fashioned, but learning)
