I just bought a 1998Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 off a friend of a friend.
Got a gooddeal, but one condition, it is making a clanking noise somewhere in the front(I think, I've never heard it outside the truck)
Right now, the noise will start after i've been driving for a small ways(maybe a mile, maybe 2-3 miles), it starts if I fall under 20-25 miles per hour, and, for the most part, will stop when I start braking. It does not happen(Maybe it does and I just can't hear it over wind/engine?) over 25 miles per hour.
The noise sounds as if you hung a few tin cans from the bottom, or had a bearing loose somewhere that was rolling/bouncing around..
The only modifications that have been doneare 35" tires whichwere added to the truck, and it was lifted a few inches to accomodate.
According to the seller, it did not make this noise before they installed the new tires.
At first, I thought maybe something was loose in the brake area(because the noise stops when I brake), checked them, they seem to be fine.
Could it be a U joint?
If so, just a rough estimate, what do you think I will be out fixing both U joints?
Thanks.
