The top speed is more related to the rearend gear and RPM capabilities of the engine. There probably is an RPM limit of a tranny, but I'm not sure what it would be.
I wouldn't do it all the time. Eventually something will break. It's tough on the U-joints too.

I can not see the trans having any effect on the top speed. Unless you are also towing a load in overdrive. This will short the life of the OD.
I do not know about 97s, but Dodge use to have a limiter built into the computer. And for brake stands,what would life be with out a brake stand now and then.But full throttle ones are risky. If you brake anything in the drive line the trans will over run, and damage the sprag..
