i'v been told to be carefull as to which oil filter to use on my cummins.rumor has it that the wrong brand filter will break down and cause engine failure.can a purolater be used.

 

to be on the safe side even though i havent heard of that and i work in a dealership you could always use a oil filter that is recommened by the local dodge dealership

 

Go to the diesel site here in the forum and you will find the lists of oil filters recommended. There is also a printable version of the warning from Dodge on certain oil filters you should not use. I go directly to the dealer to be safe. But you are correct in your concern for low oil pressure and engine damage by using an incorrect filter.
