I have now, on two different occasions, spent over $250 on each occasion for mechanics to correct a problem with surging or skipping where instead of running smoothly, it begins skipping so that driving down the road there are skips such that the engine seems to be choking. Now with over 500.00 spent, it does exactly the same thing. The check engine light comes back on and when a neighbor checked it with a meter it say the fuel mixture is too lean. Ideas? What could I do to correct this. Other suggestions? The complete tune-up didn't help and a change of the fuel filter didn't help. About 4 years ago I replaced a faulty fuel pump and that cost hundreds of dollars.
