Dino oil and syn oil mix together fine. There's no worry of "contamination" from one to the other.......

you people go 5-6k before a change? Seems kinda crazy. Maybe I'm just extra-careful because of the 2.7l's sludging issues.

a quality synthetic limits the production of sludge the oil is not the only cause of sludge issues. if you ran dino oil and changed it enough to limmit sludge you would wind up changing it every 1500 miles. i run 5000 miles with mine ( i use redline oil) with a filter change at 3000. change intervals depend on the make up of the oil and the condition under which it operates. the properties of a synthetic oil depend on the composition of the base stock, additives in the oil.....ect there is just to many factors to really list. buying a quality oil to start with is half of the battle. if oil doesn't get dirty then its not doing its job like it should. dino oil while it is ok for most consumers thought anyone that puts a bit of research into lubricant will tell you synthetic is the way to go for those of us that care and love our vechiles. take my father for example he has been stubborn (being 73 and from the old school of thought) has been an uphill battle both ways with a foot of snow and barefoot even to just get him to understand that oil oxdizes even with out running. some of the old ways were common you can uderstand if we tried that now we to would be walking both ways uphill.

On my SRT-4 you're supposed to change every 3 months or 3K miles, mostly due to the turbo. Amsoil advertises that you can go longer than that, but if you read the "fine print" on their bottles of oil, it says to change the oil in turbocharged engines according to the factory recommendation. I change mine more often than the factory recommendation because of the hot weather down here and my "preferred customer" discount at Amsoil lets me buy the oil at dealer cost.

Nothing special needs to be done for the switch from conventional to synthetic oil. Synthetic oils are far better than conventional oils in every way except price, but with rising oil costs that too is changing. The only thing you need to worry about is not to switch to synthetics if you already have an oil leak, because it will get worse with synthetics. Other than that, synthetics are great and have proven to give you increases in horsepower, torque and fuel mileage. It will also reduce wear and engine operating temperatures.

I switched to Amsoil at 3K miles. Did the same years ago with my Suburban. 15 Years and 280,000 miles and still running. Hopefully the Hemi will hold up the same....I'm in the process of installing the triple bypass filtration system from Amsoil on my Dodge.
