crankshaft positionig sensor
If it's for that '96 Ram you asked about earlier, which I'm assuming is a safe bet, it's on the back of the motor. If it's the 5.9L gas motor (360), again a safe bet, it's on the passenger side rear of the motor toward the top, between two of the bellhousing bolts that hold the transmission to the engine block. There's a notch on the top of your transmission bellhousing and the sensor is inside there. You'll see the wires coming thru the opening. On the bellhousing of the engine block there are 2 small bolts (takes an M12 or 1/2" socket I believe) holding the sensor bracket onto the engine. Take these bolts out, pull the sensor up thru the notch in the transimssion bellhousing, and unplug from the harness on top of the motor, just on the drivers side of the distributor. Installation of the new sensor is the opposite (obviously). It's kinda a pain in the *** cause there's not a whole lot of room to work.
Now, if it's a 5.9L Cummins Diesel (kinda a longshot, but could be), it's either right next to or behind your starter, I don't remember for sure.

I probably should have changed that seal when I had the trans out, but it's not leaking on the ground so screw it. I already had my hands full converting over to the manual trans. Still isn't completely done, but I've been driving it for over a month now as it is.
